Aspirations Mentoring for Children in Care and Care Leavers

ABOUT.

01.

WHO?

Aspirations Mentoring is for children in care, those who might be on the edge of care, and care leavers.

02.

WHAT?

Long-term one-to-one support for children in care, those who might be on the edge of care, and care leavers. Aspirations Mentoring focuses on supporting young people to identify their hopes and dreams for their future, empowering them to find ways to overcome challenges or barriers that may be standing in their way.

03.

WHY?

We empower young people to build confidence, recognise their worth, and harness their strengths for a positive impact. Through stability, trust, and guidance, we help them form healthy relationships and develop tools for emotional well-being—laying the foundation for independence and a brighter future.

Having a mentor has helped me to realise that I can’t change other people, but I can change the way I respond.

FAQ.

The young person’s visits with their mentor take place in a variety of community settings such as cafes, libraries, or parks, and may also make use of the BLGC facilities.

Dependent upon the wishes and needs of the young person, the mentor may be a member of staff from BLGCs Mentoring and Befriending Team or it may be one of BLGCs volunteer mentors. The volunteer mentors go through a stringent recruitment and vetting process and have received comprehensive training for the role. They receive ongoing support, monitoring and guidance to help them in their role.
